As a ceramic artist, I’m looking at ways to create movement on the tiled surface. This can be through spontaneous brushwork on individual pieces but also through tile shapes fitting with, and relating to, each other.

I studied ‘the Art of Maiolica’ at the Istituto d’Arte per la ceramica, in Faenza, Italy gaining a good practical grounding in ceramic technique whilst appreciating the visual stimulation of Italian colour and pattern. In England the colour palette may be gentler but it is subtle and endlessly surprising.

I love the flat slab of decorated clay that is a tile.

The possibilities are endless and keep me looking at colour, texture and shape and the way they play together.
