Newly Renovated Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery, Ealing, London

The Opening Weekend on 16th/17th March 2019 was a fantastic celebration of Sir John Soane (1753 – 1837), of his vision and his influences. Wonderful craftsmanship is in evidence throughout the building and a tremendous amount of care taken to reproduce the building and decoration as he designed it, also re-instating the conservatory at the back of the house. Such an effort made to inform and enlighten visitors of all ages.… Large reproduction books with damage proof pages could be flicked through to give fascinating insight. Plenty to entertain children and encourage understanding of materials, clothing, designs and the inhabitants of the house. So much to look at. I think what intrigues me is the diversity of Soane’s decorative vision. Classicism is mixed with Art Deco, Wedgewood, India…. ideas lifted from his travels and experiences. The current gallery exhibition of reflective surfaces and shapes by Anish Kapoor is as intriguing as the exciting main house.
